Electrical Safety (LVD)

Several years ago the European Union began enforcing requirements for compliance safety testing of most electrical products sold into the European Community. These requirements were established to ensure that electrical equipment can only be sold as being safe and will not cause injury or death from electric shock or fire.

The requirement for electrical safety testing is covered by the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) and was introduced into the UK many years ago.

When the European Union was introduced it became apparent that the LVD needed to be updated. In 1993, Directive 93/68/EEC was introduced which harmonised the rules across Europe and called for all equipment to be CE marked. The legislation in the UK is now covered by the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994.

AR EMV UK are the UK distributors for two companies who have been the leaders in the Electrical Safety industry for over 60 years. This enables EMV to offer low cost solutions, providing just the basic Hipot (Flash) test, Insulation Resistance and Ground Bond, as well as fully automated solutions that add Run Test and Line Leakage tests to the basic electrical safety tests. Software control, including Bar-code detection, is available for production line testing and laboratory testing set-ups.
